Hi, I’m Kirsi
I’m originally from Finland and have called Ireland home for the past 20 years. After more than 15 years working in the fast-paced world of tech, I found myself wanting, and needing, to slow down and create more space for the things that help me feel grounded and connected.
Living away from Finland for so long also made me realise just how much I missed Finnish sauna culture. For me, sauna has always been a place to pause, switch off, connect with others or simply be still. There is something very special about the rhythm of heat, löyly, cooling down and returning to the sauna again.
Along the way, I discovered breathwork and became fascinated by how something as simple as our breath can change the way we feel. Breathwork and sauna complement each other naturally; conscious breathing can help us settle into the heat, quieten the mind and become more present in the experience.
Cold has always been part of that connection too. When I’m in Finland, I love swimming in lakes, including dipping into frozen lakes during winter. Stepping into icy water is never entirely comfortable, but learning to work with my breath rather than fight the cold completely changes the experience. The breath helps bring calm to that initial shock and allows you to stay present with the sensation.
These experiences eventually came together as Breath and Löyly, a way for me to share some of the traditions I grew up with alongside the practices that have helped me slow down and reconnect with myself.
I’m a trained sauna ritual guide, breathwork facilitator and ice bath instructor, and my approach is simple: experiences don’t need to be complicated to be powerful. Sometimes we just need the opportunity to breathe, feel the heat, embrace the cold and give ourselves permission to pause.
